I am more than sure you have heard of the word ‘mindset’, so what do we mean when we say mindset? Well, in simple terms it means a person's way of thinking and their opinions.
The way we control our thoughts can have a huge affect on how we manage day to day things and how we even make big life decisions.
The way that we use food as a reward (or punishment for that matter) - you know you have had a great day so you ‘treat’ yourself to a takeaway, or when you have had a rubbish day and you ‘punish’ yourself with that takeaway and feel like crap afterwards.
Mindset can come down to how we behave in relationships, you may have been cheated on for example in the past, so you now don’t trust anyone, or you will cheat on them before the new person cheats on you? Sound familiar?
Well, it’s time we changed our mindset. It’s time to let go of the past and concentrate on the now and look forward to the future. We can’t change the past, so what’s the point in holding on to it? What’s done is done, and whilst we may wish we could change it, we can’t. We may wish that we can undo our over indulgence, but we can’t, so we might as well just learn from it and move on.
I have been very guilty of this in 2016. I have been holding on to things (big things I might add), that have happened to me over the past couple of years, that I didn’t let take over my life at the time, so why am I letting it control my mindset now?
Since my five weeks off work over the summer and spending most of it travelling, I feel like I have had time to have a word with myself and feeling a lot better for it.
Our mindset doesn’t change overnight, but you know what, it doesn’t take long to do. First of all, you have to want to change your mindset. Loosing weight, stopping smoking, exercising, this ultimately comes down to our mindset and how we look at things. Stop looking at loosing weight as something you have to starve yourself to achieve - that doesn’t work, just to let you know. You have to realise you have to fuel yourself with healthy wholesome foods that will make you feel good about yourself and not sluggish and lethargic.
The people we have in our lives can also play a big part, surround yourself with positive, supportive influential people, life is hard enough, we don’t need negative Nancy’s in our life.
So, instead of dreading Monday tomorrow, approach with a different mindset, look at it as a brand new week to make those changes you have been wanting to make for so long, and SMASH this week like no other.
